How to read NFL odds
NFL games offer three core markets. The point spread levels uneven teams — Chiefs -7 must win by 8+ to cover. The moneyline is just who wins, with heavy favorites often -300 or more. The total is combined points, driven as much by weather and pace as by offense.
Key numbers
NFL margins cluster on 3 and 7 (field goals and touchdowns), with 10 and 14 close behind. That makes the half-point enormous: -2.5 vs -3.5 straddles the most common margin in the sport. Never surrender a half-point around a key number without value elsewhere — line shopping for the best number is the cheapest edge in football.
Why NFL lines move
